The Best Questions to Ask in Guess Who
A great question in Guess Who does two things: it splits the board in half and it can't be misunderstood. Below are the categories of questions that win games, with examples you can use right away.
Universal opening questions
These work on almost any board because they tend to divide people evenly. 'Is the character wearing something on their head?' covers hats, helmets and headbands. 'Do they have facial hair?' and 'Is their hair dark?' are classic 50/50 splitters.
Color questions are reliable openers: 'Are they wearing red?' or 'Is their hair light-colored?' Just count first — only ask a color question when roughly half the board matches it.
Questions for themed and custom boards
Custom boards on Guess Who Maker open up a whole new layer of questions. On an anime board you can ask 'Does the character have an unnatural hair color?' or 'Are they a main character?'. On a sports board: 'Do they play football?' or 'Are they still active?'.
For movie and series boards, lean on role and genre: 'Are they a villain?', 'Do they appear in a comedy?', 'Is the film older than the year 2000?'. These category questions often eliminate more characters than any physical trait.
Questions to avoid
Avoid anything ambiguous. 'Are they good-looking?' or 'Do they look friendly?' invite disagreement and waste a turn. Stick to facts both players can see on the card.
Avoid premature guesses. 'Is it Goku?' when ten characters are still standing eliminates one card at best. Save direct name guesses for the very end, when only one or two candidates remain.
And avoid double questions like 'Do they have glasses and a hat?' — your opponent can only give one yes/no, and you won't know which part the answer refers to.
